Dough



I spent my evening at my parents' house making brownies with chocolate-, & oreo chunk frosting for my grandma's 90th birthday party tomorrow. I already experienced death by chocolate after eating a bunch of leftover dough but I can't wait for the final result tomorrow. I'm already the best at making choc-chip cookies and I strive to be THE brownie-master!

RANT

In our newest podcast episode, we talk about something that we’re really passionate about; animals in the entertainment industry. It’s a super interesting episode with lots of juicy stuff! We talk about what can go on behind closed doors at circuses and Sea World and how poorly animals are treated in captivity. We also tell the story about the saddest gorilla we’ve ever seen in Sydney Zoo, we talk about Tyke the Elephant (RIP), Miley Cyrus & Harry Styles (what?) and why we’ve decided NOT to support any of these animal exploitative industries anymore.

Ps 3. Amen to that Jacque (first name basis haha), no but seriously, nobody can do everything but we can all do SOMETHING to help. I’m so happy that me and Cat have our little podcast to get the message out there. Even writing a little blog post or posting something on facebook regarding animal rights can help the animals, so I suggest everybody starts to speak their minds and truths, and change WILL happen! #veganpower

Tonight I made one of my all-time dinners;

-Red lentils, spinach, curry-powder & turmeric
-Pan-fried cherry-tomatoes, spinach, black pepper & dried parsley

Suffragette


Wow... Suffragette was amazing. It was super inspiring to think that these brave women fought for our rights and risked their own lives in order to do so. And to think that this all happened only about one hundred years ago is insane.. women didn’t have the right to their own children, to vote, and were seen as less worthy than men in general. I felt really emotional watching the movie but afterwords I felt super empowered as a woman, we rock!! Being the “activist” that I am, it’s funny to think that if I’d been born at that time, I definitely would’ve been a suffragette myself. Definitely recommend watching this movie, best one I’ve seen in a long time!

Movietime with my favorite twins



Yaay I've been looking forward to seeing this movie for so long! I've got the most random snacks with me though; potato- flatbread (/rieska), cherry tomatoes and licorice...say what? anyways, happy Saturday everyone!!

I’ve noticed something lately, and it’s that I always start to feel really down and bummed out if I haven’t been around animals in a while. Me and Ida were dog sitting a dog named Hubbe a few weeks ago, but other than that and petting the cat at my summer place, I haven’t had any animal contact in so long.. 

I miss Iris so much, I miss the pig I met in Bali, and I even miss these goats (in the pic) who I always hang out with near our summer house. Animals are just the BEST therapy for me, they’re so funny and cute that I just wanna squeeze them to death (vegan joke ha-ha).

 Anyways, I feel a bit better after having an energizing Power workout at the gym and eating mangoes for my post-workout breaky. I have to start studying now and stop missing animals so byeeee!

for those of you who misunderstood

After our eating disorder podcast episode, I got some questions regarding the link between my personal eating disorder and veganism. Now I’m going to try and clear this all up for you. I did NOT decide to come to this lifestyle because I had an eating disorder that I wanted to cure.
I don’t have anything against people doing that because switching to a plant based diet has helped SO many people to overcome their eating disorders. Most of those people have been restricting their food intake for a long time, and after finding out that when you start eating plant based, you need to eat a hell of a lot more food (plant based food is often times naturally lower in calories than non-plant based foods). Most people, like me, love to eat, so naturally this type of diet ẃhere you can (and should) eat all the carbs you want and get healthy at the same time, is appealing to a lot of people, whether they’re coming from a restrictive lifestyle of not.

In the podcast episode, I did say that I switched focus from my body issues to just eating whatever as long as I wasn't hurting any animals in the process. Like most teens, I’d been struggling with body image issues from time to time (which SADLY, is completely normal in this society). But the amazing thing is that when I switched to a plant based diet, those body issues slowly started to fade away. I was now more concerned with not buying products that will harm any animals, than what my body looked like.
How some people think that eating plant based is restrictive or that it’s an eating disorder, is beyond me. Like I said, some people have started to eat plant based in order to overcome their ed’s, lose weight, clear up their skin, feel more energized, cure diseases etc. but I personally started eating plant based because I didn’t want any more animals to suffer because of me. It’s a huge bonus for me that eating plant based whole foods is like the healthiest diet on the planet, but even if it wasn't, I would still do it because of the animals. Veganism in itself has nothing to do with anything else than trying to cause less harm in this world. Hope this clears things up for those of you who didn’t quite understand the point that me and Cat were making.

You seriously can’t fail with banana bread, mine always turn out PERFECT without even following any specific recipe, you just mash the bananas and mix everything together, how easy? Last time I used this recipe and yesterday I modified it quite a lot, but I basically just used...

I’ve been filled with a lot of negative energy today, so when I had some alone time I sang (=yelled) to my favorite rage rock songs, vacuumed & baked banana bread. I feel so much better now haha. Btw I’m not a freak it’s super healthy to get rid of those shitty feelings and not let them consume your energy and eat you from the inside...

Yesterday me and my parents spent the day at our country house. I did some studying and tanning and when it became cloudy we went back to my parents’ place. In the evening I visited my granny and then we had pizza for dinner.

I slept in today because I was feeling a bit sick last night, woke up with a stuffy nose but after getting some fresh air, buying fruits & veggies at the market & doing a quick yoga practise with Kino Yoga (click the link for the practise) I’m now feeling a lot better. I have to study criminology all day and then I thought I’d hit the gym and make tons of hummus. Happy Friday everyone!

Yogi

I’ve been doing a lot more yoga practises after coming home from our little yoga retreat vacay in Riga. I think it’s really important to take time in your day to do something that serves you and makes you feel peaceful and happy. I’m so glad that for me, that something is yoga or meditation. Even if it’s only for a couple of minutes, it feels so good to find serenity within your body. I also love moving my body in the morning before doing anything else, I think it’s the best start for a great day. A good way to get started with yoga is watching different yoga tutorial videos, I’ve started following a channel on YouTube called Ekhart Yoga, definitely go check them out for creative, yet easy yoga practises! 


Manik Organik is an amazing yoga studio/restaurant in Sanur, Bali.

Their yoga studio/bungalow upstairs was to die for, how could you not become peaceful in a place like this? There were no windows and I still remember the warm breeze, smells and the sound of the leaves from the tropical trees right outside <3 

I had a private yoga session with my lovely teacher (I was the only one who showed up for class..)

Lunch Tip

I made myself a quick & easy lunch the other day and I thought I’d share the recipe with you. As a "starter” (as usual I was snacking while cooking the other stuff) I made flatbread wraps filled with green salad, chickpeas, veggies, sweet mango-chilli sauce & tomato puré. 



I bought the Tiri flatbread from my favorite middle-eastern food store, one pack with probably about six large pieces of bread costed only 0,70 euros, I ate the whole thing because it was just SO GOOD.  

My main course was lentil stew with turmeric & curry spice, basmati rice, fried zuchini with crushed tomatoes, loads of green salad and loads more bread! (I had like two more plates after this)


I know there’s a lot of you guys who’ve started to eat more plant-based, and I’m so soooo happy for you because it’s litterally the best thing ever, but I just have to remind you to eat enough food. Eating a plant-based diet doesn’t mean eating just salad and vegetables (all though I love them to death too), you have to carb the hell up and eat as much rice, potatoes, pasta, lentils, beans, fruit (etc.) as your body craves, and you’ll thrive on this diet. Restricting your food intake doesn’t do your body any good, you want to nourish your body with nutritious, delicious whole foods!

Sunday


Yesterday I woke up early, went to the gym for a quick workout, bought lots of fruit from the market square, packed my stuff and took the bus to my parents’ place. We drove to our summerhouse and I just layed in my lounger, listened to podcasts, drank coffee & juice and enjoyed the sunshine on my face (I was obviously wearing my winter coat and all that jazz, it’s not quite summer yet). In the evening, I did a 20 minute blissful yoga practise, and then I made us dinner with loads of different veggies in all the colours of the rainbow. I just have to say, after eating lots of less-nutritious food for 1,5 weeks, it feels SO good to get back to eating nourishing, plant based WHOLE FOODS. It truly makes me feel fabulous from the inside out. I’m so grateful that I’ve found this way of eating, no fruits, veggies, legumes or grains have ever tasted this good before!

BasBas

Vicke’s brother works at Basbas, or Baskeri & Basso,- a super classy & cozy restaurant in Helsinki. We had a five course dinner and also tried out one of their tasty natural white-, and red wines. My vegan dishes were incredible (Vicke also gave them an A++++) and the service, friendly staff & the atmosphere was on point too. We had a really nice last night together. Today in the afternoon, I took the bus back home to Turku and Vicke flew back to London.

Yesterday I met up with Emmy in Sello. The sun was shining and it was quite warm so we decided to have coffee outside on Base’s terrace. After catching up on everything, we went to pick up Nelle from kindergarten. She was looking pretty cool with her pink shades on. Thank you for a lovely day my lovelies <3
